Surf & Seasons

The Surf

Encanta La Vida is a surfer’s paradise, with three renowned point breaks just a short jungle walk away:

  • Pan Dulce: Perfect for riding every type of surf craft including longboards, SUPs, mid-lengths, fishes, and shortboards when it’s head-high+. This 500 yrd long right has a few different sections and easily connects with a bit of swell.
  • Backwash Bay: A fun righthander around the corner from Pan Dulce. Great for intermediate surfers, Backwash can handle any size swell.
  • Matapalo: A powerful right at the top of the headland for experienced surfers, especially during a strong south swell. Matapalo is a powerful wave with big open walls, that loves a shortboard or even a step-up when it’s solid.

World-class breaks like Pavones, Punta Banco, and a couple hidden gems are accessible via boat charter through the resort. The lodge’s prime location ensures you’ll catch waves for every skill level while immersing yourself in the natural beauty of the Osa Peninsula.

Synopsis:

The air temperature in Costa Rica is warm year-round, offering a tropical adventure in an endless summer. Southern Costa Rica’s coastline faces south, perfectly positioned to capture southern hemisphere swells throughout the year. The largest and most consistent swells typically occur between March/April and October. While November sees a slowdown in activity, smaller south swells continue to roll in during the dry season.

The green season, from April to December, generally features sunny days with occasional short tropical showers in the afternoons or evenings, keeping the landscape lush and vibrant. September and October are the rainiest months in Costa Rica, but don’t let that deter you—they’re still incredible months to visit. The jungle is at its most vibrant and lush, and the waves continue to pump. During the dry season (December through April), often referred to as Costa Rica’s summer, plants receive ample sunlight but very little rain, creating a stunning contrast in the environment.

Getting to Encanta La Vida

Encanta La Vida is nestled in one of Costa Rica’s most remote and serene locations. The most convenient way to reach it is by taking a 50-minute Sansa Air flight from San José to Puerto Jiménez, followed by a scenic 30-minute drive to the lodge.

Please note that Sansa flights do not allow surfboards longer than 6’6″. For your convenience, we can arrange for your surfboards to be transported separately. Upon your arrival in San José, a driver can pick up your boards and make the 8-hour drive to the resort. At the end of your stay, the boards will be driven back to San José, ensuring they are ready for you upon your return. Enquire about surfboard transfer rates.

This added effort to reach Encanta La Vida contributes to the uncrowded and pristine surf conditions, allowing you to enjoy the exceptional waves in solitude.
