Dean Morrison (AUS), 29, current ASP World No. 37, was assaulted in a senseless act of violence early Sunday morning at home on the Gold Coast. As reported by GoldCoast.com

ASP World Tour surfer Dean Morrison is ‘lucky to be alive’ after being king-hit and knocked unconscious in an unprovoked attack by a local ‘Coolie’ in Coolangatta early on Sunday morning. Morrison was on a night out with friends at a Griffith Street hotel when he was struck in the face by a man he did not know, about midnight.

He was taken to hospital with a broken cheekbone and numerous facial gashes.

Despite the severity of the injuries which included several gashes to the face and a broken cheekbone, early reports have it that Morrison has been cleared to travel to South Africa to compete in the Billabong Pro at Jeffrey’s Bay.
