Chaaya Island Dhonveli Beach & Spa, Maldives

The Surf

What Restaurants is to Tavarua, Pasta Point is to Chaaya Island Dhonveli: A long, high-performance, occasionally barreling lefthander wrapping around a coral reef, directly in front of the camp. This wave winds along the reef for 150 yards. Pasta Point is lip-smacking good in northeast to northwest winds, but barreling in straight north winds – surfable at all tides.

A short, five-minute boat ride across the channel, the island of Thaburundhoo is that islet of your dreams: small, tropical and with a left wrapping around one end and a right around the other. The right is Sultans and the left is Honky’s and what they have in common is they are two of the funnest waves on earth.

On the other side of Thaburundhoo is Jailbreaks, a fast 200 meter + barreling  world class right which breaks along a coral reef in front of a maximum security prison (let that prison remind you to never bring drugs into the Maldives)
Cokes is a right hander and one of the heavier waves in the area with a steep take off and 100 meter down the line barrel.
Chickens is a fast 100+ meter left.  Can be playful at high tide and more intense at low tide.

This is just a sample of the surf you can access from Chaaya Island Dhonveli Beach and Spa.  All the breaks work through a full tide swing high to low, but are generally best at mid tide and most user friendly at high tide.

It is important to remember that from Chaaya Island Dhonveli Resort you have exclusive access to Pasta Point arguably the best wave in the Maldives and unlimited surf transfers by dhoni to the other breaks listed above on your schedule.  You are not forced to go “when the boat is going”.  All this surf access with the limited surfer numbers on the island makes it possible to avoid surfing with a crowd!
