Subject: Timor May '05
Hey Sean, It's Ronnie Thompson writing you back about our May 1st - 14th trip..... You guys did us right. Everything went very smooth, from the airport transfers, hotel accommodations, transfers to and from the Mahalo 2. I just wanted to say thank you from our entire group.
The first 3 days were flat, but fishing, snorkeling and beach combing was fantastic. Just being there period was insane. Then the surf picked up, slowly, which was cool because we got a good feel of the waves and reefs before it unleashed. The last 3 days of our trip pumped double overhead surf none stop. We surfed Sucky's, Boa, Do'ah and of course Nembrala. I'm sure I got a few waves that were close to 300 yards long if not further.
The boat and crew were insane, Gary, Elaine and Shannon were very enjoyable to spend time with. The food was incredible too.
On our way home, boating back to Timor with the sun setting, I had a chance to talk to everyone about their experience and their expectations prior to the trip. Everyone said this trip exceeded all their expectations. We were treated like kings.
Thanks for the experience, my first on a boat trip, it was unreal. You got a nice little thing going on there............................ Stoked again,,,

Cheers Sean - I want to tell you what a great 2 trips I had on the Mahalo II with Gary, Elaine, Shannon, Sani, Bobby, Joel, and Yis. The boat and crew are right there at the top with any of the others that I've spent time on in the Mentawai since '98. It was easy to spend 3 weeks on it - it truly was an eat, sleep, and surf trip. The roominess on the boat was fantastic.
Gary made the right calls and kept us in surf and fishing. I know why he has chosen this area and the waves he calls home. I was fortunate to have a run with 15 days of surf, in a row, from 6-8' and peaking on the biggest swell somewhere between 15-18' at Steeples and so surfable. What a beautiful wave Nembrala is with size. And, I surfed a lot of Inner Tubes solo or with Shannon's friend Timana. What a wave that is. I couldn't believe that no one surfed it when it got good. Solo perfection (or close to it) and I could look outside and watch the crowd out the back. So much fun - a lot of good waves and smiles.
Thanks for the 4 days at the resort in between trips. It is definitely a sweet place to stay - even if no one else is there! Greg and the staff took care of me and made me feel like I was the only person there! There were tears when I left them on the last day - a great experience. Definitely worth repeating.
I still look at the pictures that Gary took, a stoke to have some of me a well. An extra that was unexpected. I can't say enough about the entire trip and my Mahalo II family. I can't say enough about them all.
I hope you get real surf and that your Dad gets into some excellent fishin. Gary can certainly put him onto the reefs and right spots.
Thanks so much for all that you did with my arrangements and my trips. My best to you and the gang at Waterways.
