Surfing Panama, Panama Surf Charters Images
If someone put up a slide show of the right and left reefs on this side of Panama and said it was the Mentawai, all but the most discerning eye would buy it: Hollow, sometimes very hollow right and left reefs, winding into coves and bays with palm trees as a backdrop. Looks like Indo, but when you’re there, it’s a whole different feel.
And a lot closer to home! This part of Panama is 1,000 miles from Florida and about 2,500 miles from southern California. Chose Bocas del Toro over the Maldives or Mentawai and you’ll save yourself maybe two to three days of travel that it takes to get to the other side of the world and back.
The three main islands and many fringe islands are host to more then a dozen breaks. The nice mix of reefs and beach breaks of various intensity make this a good destination for surfers of every skill level from beginner to expert. Come down and experience the mix for yourself.
