Samudra Biru Yacht Charter :: THE BOAT

Samudra Biru is a 70’ x 22’ power-surf-cat custom made in 2000 for surf charters in the Mentawai Islands – and the emphasis was on speed, safety and comfort. The construction of the boat is familiar to surfers: Sandwich construction, with a Divinycell foam core sandwiched between layers of epoxy-saturated fiberglass. That translates to fast, light and strong.

Samudra Biru's newest renovations include an upgraded galley (kitchen) and an interior that has been replaced along with an upgraded ac system. They've also added a large canopied new deck out front to keep out the sun. In the wheel house there is a  new satellite phone that permits free incoming phone calls. All generators are new and engines have been overhauled to provide all guests the trip of a lifetime.

The main salon provides panoramic views from the islands to the reef and out to sea. The entertainment center has a flat screen TV, DVD player, and the stereo plays CDs and is Ipod compatible.

For washing off the sun and salt, Samudra Biru has two indoor heads with salt and fresh water showers and two freshwater showers on stern swim steps.

Samudra Biru has ten sleeping births and the access is on “sleep.” All berths are air-conditioned, the floors are carpeted, and there are views from every berth and full headroom.

Catamarans are very stable at speed but also at anchor, and one of the hidden assets of this boat is the minimal amount of roll and movement when guests are surfed out, racked out and dreaming deep after a long day in the surf – or overnight transits to the next spot.

Sleep, surf… eat. The owners of Samudra Biru are Mike Corica, David Klein, Adam Kranz, and Rob Morris - Americans with many years of exploration in the Mentawai. They know that surfers travel on their stomachs and they designed their catamaran with the most modern cooking equipment to prepare everything from fresh fish to jaffles to nachos. Meals are served in an open-air dining area in the aft deck which where guests take breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks while keeping an eye on the tides and wind, or watching the sun set. It’s nice.

Surfers are transported from the boat to the reef and back in “the two tenders.” One is a 12 foot inflatable with a 15 HP engine and the other is a 15 foot inflatable with 30 HP engine The "two tenders" offer our guests greater flexibility in exploring the various breaks the Mentawais have to offer. Samudra Biru features a redesigned custom surf rack that holds up to 30 boards out of the sun. The boat is designed to store a lot of surf, dive, fishing and ocean equipment conveniently while getting surfers off and on the boat with ease.

Samudra Biru is equipped with an array of safety and navigational equipment including GPS, radar, depth sounder and SSB radio. She has a Satellite phone on board and remains in constant communication with the stateside partners for regular swell and wind updates provided by Surfline.com, Lola and Buoy Weather.com. The boat has an extensive medical kit, a backup electrical generator and multiple anchors.
