If you have ever wanted to get SCUBA certified, Aloita is the place to do it. The camp is fully rigged with equipment, air and instructors; and the Mentawai are just becoming known as a dive location, and the reefs are mostly virginal.

The fishing is also world-class, because the zone around Setan Island directly in front of the resort is one of the most abundant fishing ground in the Mentawai: Spanish mackerel, tuna, wahoo and barracuda. More exotic species like sailfish and marlin have been caught recently trolling in the Sipora channel adjacent to Aloita Resort. Other fish commonly caught close by include golden trevally and coral trout.

The motto for Aloita is “We catch what we eat – no less, no more” and spear fishing is allowed in limited areas.

Beyond surfing, fishing and diving, kids, non-surfing spouses and families will enjoy snorkeling in the lagoon, or just kicking it in the sun with a cold drink, watching the clouds pass by, feeling the wind on your skin – catching up on books and reading.
