Montanita is central to the “Central Coast” of Ecuador, an area open to swells SW to NW, with a wide variety of surf spots, many of them hidden away and hard to find. From Playas to Montanita to San Mateo is an area of the world you may have never heard of, but when you go there and get a taste of the variety of right and left points, reefbreaks and beach breaks all accessible from Casa Del Sol you will be STOKED.

Playas has seven right points. They are all connected and you can get to them by walking up the point at low tide from the town of Playas. The last point is called " El Pelado", and its is a grinding right hand point break, with three tube sections. A world class wave. Its breaks on SW to West swells and is best at low tide.

Salinas / Shit Bay a grinding, tubing left. Its kinda fickle but when it gets good its all time. It needs a huge south swell and very low tide.  A very thick and voluminous wave that comes from deep water onto a shallow reef.  Access is primarily by boat as the coast is controlled by a military base.

Montanita Is by far the most consistent wave on the coast. It’s a barreling right hander at low tide, and super fun hot dog wave at high tide. Best on north swells, but its also good on south swells. Best at medium tide, unless the swell direction is just right and then it’s a heavy barrel wave at low tide. Due to its centralized location Montanita is a good place to have as home base.

Rinconada A good righthander, shorter than Montanita with a hollow takeoff. Its takes a north swell, with a medium tide, no wind. The swell cannot be too big or too small.

Rio Chico A super left when the conditions are right. It takes a very low tide, SW to West swell and glassy conditions. Mushy takeoff with an inside tube section.

Las Tunas This is very consistent beach break but sometimes lacks shape. It has its days and can be fun when it’s small but by no means is it world class. It’s a good place to go when flat or small and glassy.

Puerto Cayo This spot is north of the town of Puerto Cayo and difficult to find.  It’s a world class beach break with board breaking power and no crowds. It is compared to Puerto Escondido and also known as "The Pipeline of Puerto Cayo". It takes North Swells and low tides and very glassy conditions. The best time of year is January through April.

San Mateo One of the best waves on the continent, a long wrapping left comparable to Rincon or Chicama. This wave takes North swell from medium to very large, as big as it gets in Ecuador.

There are many “nooks and crannies” along this stretch of coastline that get good on occasion and not detailed above.  You may just “happen upon them”, and your guide will know when it may be best to give them a check.
