SURF CAMPS

Chicama Surf Resort
Within 40 minutes of Trujillo airport, you can be in the water and surfing Chicama’s mile long lefts that are hollow, fast, and perfect.
Chicama offers consistent surf almost year round.  From March to October, the powerful swells coming from the South Pacific hit the Peruvian coast generating surf on average of 3 to 6 feet .  From November to February, surf is a little less consistent, but still receives the North swells coming from Hawaii.  (intermediate surfers).

Only 20 minutes to the north, Chicama Surf Resort guides can take you to another consistent and solid left called Poemape known for its classic, hollow, fast waves from 3 - 12 feet that provide a speedy ride of approximately 300 meters at a time.  The first section is mostly hollow and is surfed entirely opposite and over the rock reef.  The second section breaks in the bay and is easier as it is not as walled up as the first and peels over sandy bottom (advanced surfers).  Ten minutes further north is Pacasmayo, locally known as the “Pacasmayo Express”.  This wave offers consistent world class lefts that break up to 12 feet on big days.  Pacasmayo can seem like an endless wave with several sections holding impressive speed and perfection.  Pacasmayo is also among the top 5 spots in the world for wind sports like kite and wind surfing (advanced surfers).  Trips are also available to take you to Huanchaco, right off Trujillo.  This open faced left and right beach break offers surf ranging from 3-8 feet (intermediate surfers)

Chicama Surf Resort was envisioned by a few Peruvian surfers who have traveled the world in search of the perfect resort with perfect waves.  Having found several resorts that they liked, they wanted their own in their homeland.  “To offer the best trip possible, in terms not only of surfing itself, but as a true vacation experience where you can sample perfect waves, excellent food, and Peruvian culture ” pledged Mario Costa. In May 2007, this dream will become a reality.

Chicama Surf Resort has 20 double occupancy rooms (can be converted to triple occupancy) all with private bathroom. From your balcony of ten of these rooms,  you can check the surf at the “Point” of Puerto Chicama where the left breaks.
Amenities include swimming pools, hot tub/Jacuzzi, sauna, massage room, gym, game room, restaurant, and bar.

At Chicama Surf Resort, surfing is just the beginning.  You also have access to windsurfing, kite surfing, fishing, diving, mountain bikes.  high-speed inflatables will take you back to the line up for yet another long ride back. Not to mention the fact that you are in the middle of Peruvian history.  After Macchu Picchu, Chicama is in the middle of the most important archeological sites in Peru.  Huaca of the Sun and the Moon and Chan Chan in Trujillo.  El Brujo, an astonishing new discovery near Paijan  15 minutes from Chicama.  And Lord of Sipan in Chiclayo.  Try your hand at riding “caballitos de totora” in Huanchaco, the long reed boats which are the precursors of modern surfing..  Also available Peru’s traditional “Peruvian Paso horses” which will take you to wonderful rides along sandy beaches.

Pico Alto International Surf Camp
Just 43 km south of Lima, Pico Alto International Surf Camp in Punta Hermosa accommodates a maximum of 20 guests.  All rooms have bathrooms, hot and cold running water, lockers, and amenities.  Meals are included and feature some of the freshest seafood you’ll ever taste.   Along the coast of Punta Hermosa, lies over 17 major surf spots that break anywhere from four feet to four or five times overhead. Believe us-not enough surf is seldom an issue in Peru. In fact the opposite is usually the case. Regardless, your host and surf guide who have a long history in this area, will get you the best surf to suit your skill level and mood on any given day.

Playa Blanca
For adventure which will get you far outside the suburbs of Lima, we can arrange packages to Northern Peru including Playa Blanca. Both the air and water temperatures increase greatly in this region; you can shed the full-suit for a shorty or boardshorts. Bungalows Playa Blanca are located approximately 720 miles north of Lima on a beautiful sandy beach. Without any neighbors, uncrowded surf is the name of this game. The modest bungalows accommodate 2-4 persons each and are only steps from the beach. Meals include a variety of fresh seafood provided by the local fishing village. Your surf guides are available with transportation to get you into the best surf each day.

Then, if time allows, spice up your trip to South America with an excursion to the legendary lost city of Machu Picchu or the ultra-exotic Amazon Jungle.
