SURFING WITH FRANK

Surf Tour 1:
7 Nights, 8 Days
Raglan, Gisborne, East Cape

After arriving in Auckland, your surf guide, Dave Jacobi, will be waiting to take you to Raglan. With only a 2 hour drive south of Auckland, they plan to have you in the water that day.

Raglan lives up to it’s famous “Endless Summer” point break reputation with it’s 3 perfect lefts (Indicators, Whale Bay, and Manu Bay) peeling into the Bay. Your accommodations overlooks Whale Bay, and is close enough to ensure you’re the first in the water, scoring Raglans relatively crowd free long left. Hungry or thirsty, Dave will get you into Raglan’s township, plenty of cafes, shops, and galleries. Your second day is spent in Raglan. Third day, depending on conditions, you may or may not surf Raglan before the packing for the five and a half hour drive over to the East Coast. This is a long time on the road but the scenery is beautiful and the company is good. You should arrive in Gisborne in time for an evening surf either right in front of your accommodation at the Chalet Surf Lodge or at any one of the many other local options. Days 4-7 are spent surfing, surfing, and more surfing. There are at least 30 different surf breaks within this East Coast region. Your finals days are spent matching our local knowledge to the waves of your dreams. Novice or Pro the odds are in our favor that within 175 kilometers of East Cape coast line we will be able to find a wave that more than pleases.

Depending on your return flight schedules, your final day should consist of one final surf session. We’re confident that you will leave surfed out and happy.

Surf Tour 2:
7 Nights, 8 Days
Gisborne, East Cape

Upon arrival at the Auckland International Airport, grab a free trolley, and a free cup of coffee, and wait to claim your luggage. After clearing customs, walk out of the arrival area turn right and follow the path over to the domestic air terminal, it’s about a 10 minute walk that you will appreciate after your long flight.

Waiting for you at the Air New Zealand domestic check-in will be electronic tickets in your name for your internal air travel. Auckland to Gisborne is a 1-hour fight. Gisborne has a small hassle free airport. Small airport…small planes. (Please read the section on board transportion)

In Gisborne you will be greeted by a Surfing with Frank (SWF) guide or by a representative from the Chalet Surf Lodge. The Chalet is a 15-minute drive from the airport. This is a landmark property with sweeping sea views and 3-4 beach breaks within easy walking distances.

Your surf guide service is on call from dawn to dark. The surf guide will pick you up at any time you like from 6:30 AM onwards and get you to the best waves on the day. This could mean surfing any one of the many local options or jumping in the van and heading south for the Mahia Peninsula, or maybe the chase will have you driving up the coast looking for that perfect protected pocket.

We will also get you into town to have a look around, check out a café or two, sample some of the local brews, do a bit of shopping, you just say the word.

Your last day will end with a couple of surf sessions, and a quick trip to the Gisborne Airport, ready for your flight home.

Special note about board transport:
Flying in or out of Gisborne with long boards poses a bit of a problem. The cargo holds on the planes just aren’t big enough to cope. Perhaps during the odd slow day they may just be able to squeeze them on-----but it’s better not to count on it. What this means is that if you ride a board that is longer than 7’4” we are going to get your sticks in and out of Gisborne by road transport. This also means that you will be without your own boards for, depending on schedules, from ½ to 1 full day on both your arrival and your departure. We have boards here for you to borrow to fill the gap until yours arrive. Just let us know what type of board you normally ride and we will do our best to help out.

Your tour price includes road transport for one board bag, which can contain two boards. More boards, more bags, more dollars. Please inquire for a price quote if your surf gear exceeds our limit.
