Interested in the greatest surf trip you've never
taken? Look no farther than the island nation
of New Zealand. Long known for being one of the
most beautiful places on earth, "New Zillan's"
biggest secret is the beautiful, uncrowded surf
that lies hidden in its immense coastline: both
North and South Island containing as much shoreline
as the continental U.S. and all of it getting
waves of some sort. The best months for surf and
weather are October through May, when, if you're
prepared to explore, you'll have access to literally
hundreds of rivermouths, beach breaks, points
and reefs. And with its combination of both alpine
and coastal resources, New Zealand is also the
perfect destination for surf/snowboard vacations.
Why follow a beaten path? Forge out on your own
and put some adventure back in your surfing with
a trip to this Southern wonderland. Or try the
perfect compromise and book a trip with one of
our experienced local surf guides-go with someone
who knows.
The West Coast of the North Island is renowned
for its consistency. Raglan is widely recognized
as one of the bet left handers in the world. The
East Coast of the North Island provides generally
smaller, cleaner waves than the west. On good
swells this area produces very quality surf. Gisborne
is the surf capital of New Zealand, with consistent
waves of every variety available.
The South island plays host to many of New Zealand's
best breaks from the perfection of Kaikoura to
the wave rich Otago Peninsula. The south island
is much colder then the north and offers some
of the best snow in the world.
