CARDON ADVENTURE RESORT – SINALOA (NORTH OF MAZATLAN)

Located approximately one hour north of Mazatlan, this area has been largely overlooked by traveling surfers who fly past headed south for the more well-known and crowded breaks of southern mainland Mexico.
Cardon Adventure Resort (CAR) boasts an ideal beachfront location centered between two left point breaks; Milagro and Tiburon. Milagro, to the south, is a fast racy wave more described as a long sandbar deposited on the north side of sharp “L” shaped point. This wave is a little more subject to particular swell and conditions then Tiburon for those epic days, but on its day Milagro is an amazing wave for those looking for hollow surf. Tiburon, positioned just north of CAR, is a longer more rounded classic sand bottom point set-up. This wave works well given any southerly swell direction (south through southwest) consistently providing rides in the 150 -200+ yard range. Given the nature of a long point break these waves are well suited to a full range of surf abilities from beginner to advanced. Prevailing weather conditions see glassy mornings or possible off-shore winds with onshore west/southwest winds picking up late morning to early afternoon. Although the surf is most always best in the morning there is plenty of opportunity to get some fun afternoon surf at Tiburon which is slightly protected from a southerly wind. The water is very warm, so why not get as much water time as possible?

The resort is comprised of a main accommodations block with four separate air conditioned rooms each with private bathrooms. Each room is well furnished and opens onto a common porch area which extends across the front of the property with hammocks hung from each unit. This “common” area also contains the main satellite TV, modern stereo system and internet services for guest’s enjoyment and convenience. The main restaurant/bar is situated in front of the accommodations and features an open “palapa style design. There is also a large deck that extends out over the beach below, overlooking the two points. From the deck you can relax with a frosty beverage and monitor what the prevailing swell and wind conditions are producing at each point, what activities may be taking place on the beach, or just relax and watch the sunset.

A variety of activities can be arranged from the resort for an extra fee including saltwater or freshwater game fishing, eco-cultural tours and trips into Mazatlan day or night to shop, party, or both.

PUNTA ESCONDIDA SURF TOURS – SALINA CRUZ (SOUTH OF HUATULCO)


Salina Cruz is located 83 miles southeast of Huatulco on the northwestern corner of the Gulf of Tehuantepec. Generally regarded as a shipping port, this area has little to no tourism keeping it relatively unknown to the general surfing population.

Over the last 20 years, the whisper of epic right points south of Puerto Escondido has slowly grown louder as feral surfers began to visit a few of the world class waves near Huatulco, most commonly, Barra De La Cruz. Waves like “Barra” gave surfers little reason to venture to other waves around the Huatulco area.


Our surf packages in Salina Cruz are coordinated in conjunction with local resident and surfer Gustavo Frey Jr. We’d originally heard about Gustavo through past WaterWays clients who’d met up with him on their trips. Their positive feedback about Gustavo’s level of service and comfortable accommodations, mixed with epic uncrowded waves, clearly made Salina Cruz WaterWays’ next quick trip option.

The coastline from Huatulco south to Salina Cruz is mainly comprised of right points that are stacked nearly back-to-back with picturesque beaches hidden in between. Each of these sand-bottomed points has its own character. There is a point to suit every style of surfer from the tube enthusiast to shortboarders and longboarders. The bulky headlands and curves of the coast allow for different waves to work on different winds making it rare to find undesirable conditions. The waves around Salina Cruz are true gems.  Due to poor dirt road conditions that spider-web to the coast with no posted signs, and often the need to drive on the beach, makes reaching any of these waves without a guide and 4x4 vehicle extremely difficult, if not impossible.

Packages are not set to specific days or dates allowing each group to arrive and depart on the schedule that works best for them. Each individual group of 3 or more receives their own surf guide and 4x4 vehicle. The guides are local surfers who’ve grown up in Salina Cruz making them experts at knowing which waves are working best based on the swell, tide, and wind conditions. Your guides will be with you from sunup to sundown and will assist you with anything you need. Smaller groups of 1 or 2 surfers may be paired together but will never exceed a total of 4 per guide and vehicle.

The camp is located in the town of Salina Cruz a short drive from the nearest surf spots and is fully air conditioned with a central dining area, game room, and 4 bedrooms. Each bedroom sleeps up to 3 people and has a private bathroom, cable TV and DVD Player. The game room has a pool table and ping pong table, and the common area is set up with a table for dining, couches, DVD player, and cable T.V.

Each group will receive a private bilingual surf guide, air conditioned accommodations, transportation w/ water and snacks, 3 meals daily, and airport transfers. Beverages other then water are not included.
