The Experience

Upon touchdown at Rokot Airport in the Mentawais, you will be greeted by Mentawai Resorts staff that will transfer you onto a speed boat for a 45min ride directly to Katiet Villas.  You can be checked in to Katiet Villas and in the surf by lunch time.

Imagine coming back from surfing to enjoy amazing meals prepared by western trained chefs, followed by a massage under a palm tree to get you primed for your next surf.  At the end of each day, it's ice-cold beer-o-clock at the main villas bar where you can reflect on the magical waves of the day.

You retire at night to the five star comfort of your luxurious villa as the sounds of HT's cracking on the reef lull you to sleep.

With one of the worlds best waves breaking 100 meters from your balcony, surfing doesn't get any better...... unless you climb aboard a high-speed surf transit boat for a day trip to explore some of the other amazing waves in the Mentawai Islands, all within 40 minutes from the resort @ HTs.

ACCOMMODATIONS
Katiet Villas @ HT's currently consists of 4 immaculately finished 2 bedroom private beach villas that will redefine the concept of island living. One of Bali's leading interior designers has been engaged to consult with Mentawaian partners to create the furniture & fittings of each villa with a unique style and standard.




Each villa is a self contained, fully furnished, beautifully appointed home complete with:

THE SURF


Breaks within 15 mins from Katiet (1 trip per day included):
HTs Lances Right - HTs is one of the main reasons many surfers make the trip to the Mentawais. And with good reason! It’s as good as any wave in the world for its size on its day. To watch one of these waves wrap into a beautiful, protected tree lined cove and peel off mechanically over the reef is to come face to face with perfection. The wave itself sometimes pours over the reef in a square barreling tube, other times opening up an unblemished face just waiting to see what you are capable of creating. Depending on swell direction and size, there are a couple of different take off zones where you can test your skill - and courage - on this wave.

Lances Left
One of the most consistent and higher quality waves in the region (and hence pretty popular!). With a prevailing southwest swell grinding on its broad shelving reef, it presents quite a few different take-off positions and during the right conditions has two fantastic fin-humming longer tube sections. Lances Lefts can hold plenty of size, up to 3 meters, though like many waves in the Mentawais it’s best around 2 meters or so (which will give you plenty of dry hair tube rides, forehand or backhand. Despite its regulation line-up, Lance's Left is also wave that will give you a very forceful reminder every now and then to give it the respect it’s due.

Bintangs
Not as long as many other breaks in the region, Bintangs is a quality punchy, dredging right located a few hundred yards from Lance's Left. The incoming swell is indicated by a bombora about 100 meters outside the break. The swell then quickly moves in from left to right as they hit the triangular reef. Often what may seem as being caught too far inside, quickly moves to a peak-like take-off on a fast dredging right hand wall. Surprisingly Bintangs can comfortably handle waves up to 12 feet, becoming squarer and more like The Box in Western Australia. Bintangs can also handle some funky north wind directions pretty well and can often be worth a session or two.

Heading down South 25km from Katiet (Max range est. time 1hr, add’l cost per transfer):

Macaronis - One of the best performance waves in the world. Incoming swells are introduced via a couple of outside indicators. A must-see wave on most trips, its tight take-off area and mechanical peel can mean the scramble for a taste of its perfection can get very intense. The wave itself reels off across a curved lava-coral shelf that has somehow evolved at an almost perfect angle. Positioning on take-off can set the tone for most of the wave, with a long hollow wall followed by curves suited to any turn or tube you'd care to imagine. Best up to 2 meters, it can still hold shape on a bigger swell.

Heading up North 25km from Katiet (Max range est. time 1hr, add’l cost per transfer):

7 Palm Point - A fun left-hander ideally suited for longboarders. Most boats skip surfing here but every once in while it will offer up a decent wall to attack.

Suicides - Suicides didn't get its name for nothing. It's a ridiculously fast, horrendously square barrel capable of extracting extreme punishment. Goofyfoots have the clear advantage confronting its ominous, left caverns. Suicides is somewhat hard to score, but if you're in the area, you like getting pitted, and you're goofyfoot, scope it out.

Arrik - A spectacular left when it's on, Arrik offers a high-speed barrel that momentarily backs off before it throws square again. It needs a pretty good-sized swell to work but it's been known to leave a smile on your face. Was named as KIRRA backwards, so that describes it all!

Telescopes - One of the first and best-known waves in this wave paradise, this long perfect left-hander has starred in virtually every surf video made in the Mentawais. Its mechanical set-up tempts you to sit deeper and deeper, with the possibility of an awesome long backdoor tube followed by a hollow perfectly formed wall that invites you to test both your abilities and your imagination again and again. One good surf here may change what you consider possible.

Icelands - Icelands is the magnet for swell in this area. It’s a lefthander that peaks up on the outside and offers a great step take off. As the wave gets closer to the inside, it gets hollower and offers up an inside bowl that will get any heart pumping. Holds swell up to 10 foot and over. Needs SW to west swell and SE winds, no wind is ideal. Surfable on all tides.

THE BOATS
Mentawai Resorts own and operate a fleet of new speedboats which can have you surfing all the major breaks in the Mentawai and a few secret spots known to the team of western surf guides. If the wind kicks the home break at HTs, you can be in the water at Lances Left or Bintangs, enjoying offshore conditions, in less than 15 minutes.



The boats will have you at Macaronis in less than 45 minutes, or book a day trip to up north to Playgrounds and surf Scarecrows, Telescopes or Icelands on your way there.  After a full days outing , crack open the fully stocked icebox on your boat and throw a line in to grab a fish or ten on the way home to HTs.

DAY BOAT HIRE
MENTAWAI SURF TOURS
Welcome to Mentawai Surf Tours (MST). We are based out of Katiet Villas @ HTs and offer a boat charter service to serve guests and other visitors to Katiet. The following services are available for charter. Please note that we do have a minimum rate to launch our craft and should the minimum amount of passengers not be available, a minimum charter rate applies.

KV/Maccas Return to KV
day tour to Maccas to experience arguably the regions best left. Trip takes approx 1 hour. Aqua and snacks included.

• Rates: US$75 pp : Min Charter: US$300

KV to Tuapejat One Way
This service transfers guests and other visitors from Katiet Villas to Tuapejat to meet up with the "Ambu Ambu" or other transit vessels. Trip takes between 1.5 to 2 hours depending on sea conditions. Montana 2 for groups up to 6. Montana 1 for groups greater than 6. Aqua and snacks included.

• Rates: US$65 pp : Min Charter: US$260
