KARANG NYIMBOR SUMATRA HOTEL
& SURF CAMP
(One of Indonesia’s Richest Surf Grounds)
Although the Mentawai and Hinako Islands (off the
central and north coast of Sumatra) have been attracting
thousands of surfers for years, the mainland of
Sumatra has remained relatively un-traveled. The
southwest coast of Sumatra is not blocked by any
offshore islands and received the full brunt of
swell traveling up from the roaring 40’s.
Located within a Nation Park in the Lampung District
on the southern tip of Sumatra Island, Andy Watson
and his Indonesian wife Irma have developed a
surfer’s sanctuary at Hotel Karang Nyimbor
, a 10 room beachfront property accommodating
a maximum of 20 guests; where un-crowded waves,
amazing wildlife and village surroundings offer
a slice of paradise for surfers. All rooms are
ocean facing with a view of the point and fan
cooled .Guest share three bathrooms located on
the ground floor. Facilities and activities include
DVD player, movies, telephone, ping pong, biking,
beachcombing snorkeling, and unlimited surfing
Inexpensive fishing trips can be arranged with
the locals for marlin, tuna and wahoo. Those interested
in fishing will need to bring their own equipment
and tackle.
Andy is the most qualified surf guide in this
region having lived-in and surfed the area almost
exclusively for the past 5 years. The packages
offer some flexibility to access many surf breaks
in nearby regions. To take full advantage of this
flexibility you may decide to stay in one of Andy
& Irma’s other properties in the area.
A short 20 minute drive south at the Sumatran
Pipeline are three stilted two man bungalows situated
directly in front of the break. About an hour
north, just south of the Bengkulu province and
directly in front of Drew’ Right, is their
third property; a modest three bedroom hose which
comfortably accommodates 6. This house has breathtaking
views with a beautiful swimming beach and a variety
of additional breaks in the direct vicinity.
