FREEDOM I

If you would prefer to cruise the Mentawai chain with a small group of friends or couples, the 40’ Catamaran Freedom I should be your vessel of choice. Freedom I was launched in 2002 with a complete factory outfit for comfort cruising. The layout maximizes all hull and cabin space for the feel of a much larger vessel. Its catamaran design in conjunction with twin Yanmar engines offers smooth and quiet cruising while underway at 7.5 kts or while at anchor. In addition, this design allows a minimum draft of less than 1 meter allowing Freedom to get in close to the surf breaks or private lagoons for special anchorages.


You chef Chris will prepare a variety of Western and Indonesian dishes. Chris has years of experience working on charter boats and knows the importance food service makes to an overall charter experience. Quality and quantity will be your feedback!


Freedom I is fully equipped with all entertainment, safety and navigational equipment including DVD, LCD-TV and CD. The 4.3 meter rigid hull inflatable is powered by a 40hp outboard for quick and convenient surf transfers


Guests will be met at the airport by representative of FREEDOM I and taken to a local 4 star hotel before departing the harbour in the afternoon, arriving at the first break at dawn. 10 full days of surfing in the Mentawais Islands region with the option of heading further north to the Telo Islands if specifically requested by a group in advance.

From my personal experience (Sean Murphy – President WaterWays Travel) Freedom I and her crew are all about individual customer service. Due to the small groups the captain and crew are able to take specific requests and desires from individuals on board. Surfing breaks with no other boats in the area is when the small group numbers really pay off. In addition, Freedom I has a digital photo setup on board. For an additional fee you can return home with a disk covering your experience aboard Freedom I from start to finish, and hopefully some of the best surf shots of yourself you have ever seen. I can not give enough positive feedback from my experience aboard Freedom I.

On each charter there will be 4 crew members (Captain, Cook 1-2 Indo crew) and a maximum of 5 guests onboard. Freedom Charters will take a maximum of 5 passengers in three air conditioned cabins. One cabin has large double bed, one two single bunks and one with a single bunk.
