DHONVELI BEACH AND SPA

Atoll Adventures bases its operation from the exotic DhonVeli Beach and Spa (formerly Tari Village Resort), on the islet of Kanu Huraa, and if a dreamier set-up has ever been found we haven't heard of it. The mood at Dhon Veli is intimate, exclusive, the accommodations delightful, two-story, air-conditioned bungalows. Although the number of surfing guests is limited to a maximum of 30, the resort facilities are available to all guests and their families, and include a sumptuous restaurants, full-service bar, swimming pool, swimming beach, tennis court and PADI dive center and full spa facilities.

But for surfers, it's the view that's out of this world. Peeling down the south corner of the islet is the perfect left of Pasta Point (named for the original Italian owners of the resort), the most reliable, mechanical wave in the Maldives: a beautiful high-performance wall-to-inside barrel that's good from two to eight feet. Accessible perfection, and we're talking 50 yards from your shady balcony to the lineup.

Then across the channel to the south (5 minutes by boat), an even smaller islet that literally splits the Indian Ocean swells, both accessed by boat from Dhonveli. The left is called Honky's, a fast, wedging takeoff with a wrap-around end bowl section that must be seen to be believed. The right is known as Sultans, and between the outside peak and the inside wall lies about 100 yards of pure speed surfing. Maldivian surf is rated thrilling, yet not dangerous. The surf season runs from February through late November, peaking in June and July-the best of the Southern Hemisphere swells. Winds are generally light, except during the southwest monsoon months between mid-May and August, which can see the occasional rain squalls. A further 5 minutes by boat brings you to the world class super fast right handed Jailbreaks.

Dhonveli’s exclusivity, its proximity-its civility-make it a one-of-a-kind surf destination. All our packages with Atoll Adventures include accommodations, meals, drinking water (with meals only), unlimited surf transfers, experienced surf guides, plus airport and hotel transfers. The ultimate all-inclusive surf resort.

More serious surf adventure is offered by Outer Atoll Surfaris, with trips to the Maldives’ even more remote southern atolls. This region is well outside the "Tourist Zone" making government permits required for foreigners.
