Bobby’s Grajagan Surf
Camp
Surfing's first jungle surf camp-and still
the best. To come this far and not experience the
G-Land Express is to miss out on one of the sport's
classic travel adventures: the trip from Bali to
the southwest tip of Java and the incredible left
reef of Grajagan, fringing the Blambungan National
Forest.
Since its discovery in the mid-1970s, G-Land has
been considered one of the best waves in the world.
With three sections to work with-Kong's, Moneytrees
and Speedies-G-Land is like an entire surf trip
in one package. Endless walls, unbelievably long
tubes, hairy sections. If you want to push your
surfing, G-land will push back, anywhere from 5
feet to as big as you can handle.
Your mission begins on Bali, where you'll be picked
up and driven by bus across the island to Gilmanuk.
From here you hop on a ferry across the Bali Strait
to Banyuwanji in Java, continuing overland to Grajagan
village. Next a high-speed powerboat transfers you
to Bobby Radiasa's fabled jungle camp. And while
early G-Land explorers may have wallowed in their
rickety bamboo treehouses, these days it's all about
jungle chic: tastefully appointed traditional huts,
large screen, satellite TV, VCR, Zodiac inflatables,
pool and ping-pong tables, volleyball courts, plus
an extensive kitchen and beers included.
