If there's any such thing as a surfer's continent,
the land Down Under is it. Imagine a country approximately
the same size as the United States, but with excellent,
rideable surf on at least two-thirds of its coastline.
And a largely undeveloped coastline, where lazy
two-lane highways wind their way through small
coastal towns, national parks and miles of uncrowded
beaches. With the exception of some of the busier
urban surf centers on Australia's east coast (like
Queensland's Surfer's Paradise and Sydney in New
South Wales, both of which have their own charms)
exploring Down Under is like going back in time;
like California in the early 1960s-except supersized.
And unlike a lot of our tropical destinations,
this country is right point heaven: Noosa, Burleigh,
Kirra, Snapper Rocks, Byron Bay, Lennox Heads,
Crescent Heads, Angourie, Winki Pop, Bells Beach...the
list goes on and on.
And that doesn't even include Australia's fabled
West Coast, the most consistent surf zone on earth.
Waterways offers the flexible Campervan Rental
Program. Both 2wd and 4wd vehicles and campers
are available to suit the size of your group.
Vehicles can be picked up and dropped off in most
major cities on the east, west and south coast.
The feeling of the freewheeling experience is
one of spirit and adventure.
To access the most remote regions of the super
consistent’s west coast a boat or yacht
is necessary. The yacht Heron is the best and
only way to experience the desert islands off
Australia’s NW coast. This region is so
desolate and void of all population (including
other surfers), that your group will feel like
the first explorers who made way to west Australia.
The captain and crew of Heron are the only people
who have really spent any time in this region
and know the intricacies of the many breaks and
how they work on various conditions.
