NaMotu Island, Fiji is the one of the best destination surf trips around. I have had the pleasure of enjoying this magical spot 6 times and I plan to return for many more trips. My wife, who doesn’t surf, has joined me on two trips and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of staying on a beautiful atoll island in the South Pacific. A trip to NaMotu is a surf trip where all the details have been take care of so all you have to do is enjoy your week. “Waterways Surf Adventures” takes care of everything including a friendly send off from LAX to make sure that every last detail has been addressed. The minute you arrive at the airport in Nadi the Fijian team takes over to make sure your trip is 100% stress free, unless you stress out about surfing too much. Porters handle your luggage and surfboards so you don’t have to touch them again until you are in your Bure on the island unpacking for your first surf session.

There is not much thinking that has to be done on this trip. Everything is taken care of for you. Once you are on the island it is time to relax, surf, snorkel, scuba dive, island hop, collect sea shells, take a nap, get a massage, eat great food, drink, play darts or pink pong, or just hang out with your friend on a beautiful South Pacific Island. You don’t have to organize any of it. It is all there for you to enjoy!

As far as the surf goes, some of the best waves of my life have been on the surf breaks surrounding NaMotu. We laugh at how some of the lousy days surfing on the island are better than many of the good surf days here in CA. Crystal clear warm water with no crowds except for your friends and four different surf breaks to choose from make this island a magical surf spot.

And if the surf doesn’t cooperate there is no better place to hang out than on NaMotu. The Fijian staff is so friendly that it’s contagious. The worst part about the trip is coming home and catching the “NaMotu Fever”.

“NaMotu Fever"

"Bulla", "Vinaka", it all sound the same, Sounds of NaMotu ring in my brain.

"Hello", "Thank You" in their native tongue, Memories of "Wilkes Pass" highlighted in the setting sun.

My life is full of material possessions, But I would trade it all for some un-crowded sessions.

Don't get me wrong, surf at home is not bad, The problem is I've been poisoned with what I've already had.

It gets in your system like a deadly disease, Relentlessly tormenting the minute you leave.

Like many, my life if now full of friction, I return for more to feed my addiction.

Each day on the island my sickness becomes stronger, Life away on the mainland grows longer and longer.

I feel helpless and weak away from this force, My only purpose in life is to return to the source.

Hi Sara,

I wanted to take a minute and write to you about my experiences on trips to Namotu. It is difficult to put into words how truly enjoyable the trip really is. Scott and Mandy go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome. The Fijian staff is unbelievable friendly and by the end of the first day knows everyone by their first name. The lifeguards and other none Fijian staff are constantly asking what they can do for the guests. The food is like going to a 5 star restaurant. Even the most picky eaters, like myself, are accommodated.

I have been fortunate to surf all 4 breaks under many different circumstances. As a regular foot surfer, I cannot think of a better righthander anywhere than Wilkes Pass. I have surfed Swimming Pools as a waist high fun peeler to an overhead sucking out reef break. Namotu lefts is fun at any size, but at overhead or better on a clean day, the ride seems to go on forever. What would a trip to Namotu be without a trip to the heart thumping grinders of Desperations.

I am 50 years old and have been surfing for a long time. I ride 7'6 to 10'. I have taken many different boards to Namotu and have ridden them all at various times. I cannot think of a better trip for any surfer. It is well worth the money. By the end of the trip, the only thing I want is to stay longer. Upon my return I start immediately planning for next year.

Thanks to you, Wendy and Sean for giving me the opportunity to go. I hope to go back every year for as long as I can.

Kindest regards,
Rob Buchanf
