The Fiji Islands lie at the very heart of the
romantic South Seas, straddling the tropical latitudes
from 12 to 20 degrees south of the equator.
Swells that hit the Fijian Islands best come from
southerly fronts originating in the Roaring Forties
south of Australia and push up between Eastern Australia
and New Zealand.
Namotu Island These swells occur year round, but
are most frequent during the March-October dry season.
The wet season, November-February, tropical cyclones
south of the island group produce large, unscheduled
swells.
Although Fiji has a large tourism infrastructure,
there are only a few properties that cater to the
specific needs of a surfer. Located among the Mamanuca
Islands southwest of Viti Levu, Fiji's main island.
